The issue at hand.
Now, normally this is where a non-profit would extoll their values and share a passionate origin story for the world to see.
We thought we’d start with something a little more pressing.
This moment (yes, right now) is a critical time for Black men. Men in general, but especially Black men.
With even a casual look around it’s clear that the average experience for a Black man in America does not provide much for inspiration. There are many factors that are negatively affecting us, but they usually start in one of two camps - ourselves, and the society we live in. Without diminishing the significant impact of society (systemic racism and all its friends), there is only one side of the equation we know we can for sure change…ourselves.
We believe that Black men deserve to live full and thriving lives.
period.
Given the many approaches that have been attempted to best assist Black men, we decided to try our hand at a solution. Something different enough that it just might work, and something that we’ve all benefited from to aid our own growth and development - the outdoors.
yes, those outdoors, the same outdoors that you might have hesitation in exploring, and the same outdoors that we have had a cultural connection to since our ancestors.
The outdoors all of those things, and most importantly it’s a space that embodies the spirit of change and growth.
A place apart from the familiar concrete and commotion filled worlds we inhabit.
A place that we believe can become a sanctuary for Black men looking to expand themselves.
At Boyz, we use the outdoors to help Black men restore & reignite the best versions of themselves.
And if we can do that well, we might have a shot to co-create a world where Black men:
Embrace the outdoors and nature as an environment for personal transformation
Actively apply tools that support their total wellbeing
Authentically show up for themselves, each other, and their communities
That’s it. our cause and our mission.
The path forward is clear and we’ll be trekking along (in our Jordans of course). And if you’ve made it this far, there’s a good chance you’ll play a part in our collective success too.
